Default ratting

Im not sure what to make of this. All three of our Gordon's seem to have taken up ratting. They are perfectly fine with any fur distractions but there are a few rats around our chicken pen, they also ignore the chickens having been taught to ignore and not to chase them. However they will hunt and point the rats, if they see one they will bite it kill it and drop it. We certainly havn't taught or encouraged them to do this. On the basis its doing us a favour, I don't want the rats about and don't much want a cat what do you make of it ?

Any thoughts ?

Dave

Hope they are upto date with their vaccines - is it lepto spirosis ( pardon spelling) which they get from rats?

One of my Gordons took up catching moles - he could smell them in the runs and dug them out and tried to finish them off - but they don't half put up a fight! I am now trying to discourage this behaviour because the holes which he digs make more of a mess then the moles!

They certainly do have their vaccines up to date. Im trying to get them to stop this but they are better at it than cats. I can understand the problem with moles.....
